Even Dragon Ball’s Creator Knows Goku Isn’t a Hero For One Reason

Goku from the Dragon Ball franchise is a textbook example of an anime hero… well, at least according everyone other than his creator. Originally an alien sent to destroy Earth, a combination of head trauma and caring guardian instilled him with a sense of empathy. He grew to be a lovable oaf always pushing himself to the limit to get stronger, so he can better protect humanity. That’s the impression that most fans walk away with when either reading or watching Dragon Ball, but apparently this was far from series creator Akira Toriyama’s intent.
