Deep Space Nine Fixed Star Trek TNG’s Ferengi Mistake Right Away

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine immediately fixed Star Trek: The Next Generation‘s Ferengi mistake, vastly improving the alien species as a result. First introduced as the new antagonists for Star Trek: TNG, the Ferengi were envisioned as a Capitalist society whose ideals would be in sharp conflict with the Socialism of Starfleet and the Federation. However, that never really worked, and the Ferengi were often portrayed as slightly comic, slightly sleazy minor villains that couldn’t hold a candle to Star Trek: The Original Series‘ Klingons or Romulans. They were promptly dropped as the new major antagonists, and were instead replaced by the Borg Collective.
