D&D’s New Unearthed Arcana Changes Make Counterspell Way Less Annoying

Counterspell is a huge shutdown technique in Dungeons & Dragons, but changes in the latest Unearthed Arcana playtest tweak it in a way that makes it less frustrating to deal with. Taking its name from a 1985 rules expansion book by Gary Gygax, Unearthed Arcana provides a way for DnD publisher Wizards of the Coast to make changes to the game and let the community test them out without committing to overhauls in an official book. The current Unearthed Arcana playtests are leading up to the 2024 release of One DnD, which will officially implement any overhauls to DnD 5e that are deemed successful.
