Baldur’s Gate 3 Combat Would Be Better Using Another D&D Edition
The combat of Baldur’s Gate 3 leans heavily into environmental interaction, with options to push enemies into pits and other hazards, but the 5e Dungeons & Dragons rules are the wrong fit for this focus, since 4e DnD offered more dynamic movement powers. Being able to defeat foes using the environment, instead of just spells and weapons, is a trademark of the game’s developer, Larian Studios. While 5e DnD does offer a few forced movement options, like the Shove action or the Thunderwave spell, the 4e rules included a multitude of forced movement powers which would have synergized much better with the focus on pushing monsters off cliffs.
