American Horror Story: Apocalypse’s Big Death Twist Didn’t Work

While American Horror Story: Apocalypse offered a shocking twist in episode 3, this revelation unfortunately fell flat. Most American Horror Story seasons feature at least one decoy protagonist – a figure who seemingly acts as one of the main characters, only to be killed off less than halfway through the story. Often, these fan-favorite figures will return from the dead – à la Madison from Coven – but, sometimes, their surprisingly early demises are permanent – à la Freak Show’s Ethel Darling. In most cases, these decoy characters effectively disarm audiences who assume they know where the season’s story is going.
