Aliens Needed To Kill 1 More Character For The Franchise To Succeed (Even With A Sadder Ending)
After Ridley Scott’s darkly original sci-fi classic Alien, James Cameron’s sequel, Aliens, upped the ante, with Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley killing a veritable army of Xenomorphs rather than just one ― but a much sadder death was needed in order to save the rest of the movie franchise. Ripley has become one of the most iconic protagonists in science fiction as the one to finally take down the skin-crawling Xenomorph in Alien ― and saving her cat, to boot ― before Cameron’s Aliens boosted her gun-toting kickass image. That didn’t stop further film sequels from damaging the world of Alien, though.
