The early 2020s have proven that not only is the quality of horror movies on the rise, but that Hollywood has learned from past mistakes when it comes to developing horror franchises. Over the past few decades, many iconic horror movies that have been released are originals. The best movie in the most well-known horror franchises is often the first one, as is this case in Halloween, Friday the 13th, and The Exorcist. More often than not, exploring the mythology behind the original concept is foregone in favor of a sequel that retreads the same idea–usually through more cinematic or silly kills, in the case of the aforementioned slashers.
