Since the beginning, Star Wars has been about the hero’s journey, and no hero can complete their arc without a mentor. Within the Star Wars mythos, every Jedi is trained as a Padawan by a master, and while their bonds are strong, it doesn’t always mean that the mentor is best fit for teaching. Many masters were forced to train their apprentices under extenuating circumstances, often times making their students stronger as a result. Whether that was the Clone Wars, the threat of the Empire, or the rise of the First Order, there were always outside forces making training harder to complete—and more worthwhile.
