3 Iconic Horror Movie Directors Who Almost Made 1999’s The Mummy

The 1999 adventure film The Mummy was almost made by three different horror directors, who would have made completely different movies. The 1932 horror classic The Mummy, directed by Karl Freund and starring Boris Karloff, got a “remake” in the late 1990s, but with a completely different story. The Mummy kept Imhotep as the antagonist but introduced adventurer Rick O’Connell (Brendan Fraser) and Egyptologist Evelyn Carnahan (Rachel Weisz) as protagonists. The Mummy, then, saw Rick, Evelyn, and her brother Jonathan (John Hannah) traveling to Hamunaptra and accidentally awakening the high priest Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo).
