The DCEU is fraught with villains with less-than-compelling backstories, with much of the series’ rogues gallery failing to garner depth or sympathy. As more and more heroes were introduced into the DC cinematic universe, many of the franchise’s films were expected to pull double-duty, providing origins for not only its heroes, but their antagonists as well. In reality, most of the DCEU movies didn’t shake out this way, introducing multiple important players at once in team-up movies rather than building them up with individual solo films.
