Minister Reveals Position Of Tinubu Government On Same-Sex Marriage In Nigeria
The Federal government led by Tinubu has reaffirmed to the international community its stance against same-sex marriage.
During the 45th Universal Periodic Review in Geneva, the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the federation, Lateef Fagbemi, emphasized the government’s position, stating that same-sex marriage contradicts the country’s domestic laws.
He further explained that these laws are a reflection of the sentiments of the Nigerian people.
This declaration aligns with an existing bill that prohibits same-sex marriage in Nigeria, signed into law during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. The legislation imposes penalties, including up to fourteen years of imprisonment and fines, for individuals found guilty of its provisions.
Further details on this matter will be provided later.
