Kano Rerun: Police Arrest Suspected Ballot Snatchers (DETAILS)
The police have detained a group of youths armed with dangerous weapons, intending to disrupt the elections in Kunchi Local Government area of Kano State.
Despite the State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel, stating that no violence was recorded in the ongoing re-run elections across 60 polling units in six local government areas and three constituencies, reports suggest the arrest of hundreds of armed youths en route to Kunchi/Tsanyawa Local Government Areas to foment violence.
In Tsanyawa local government area, some youths reportedly seized ballot boxes during the exercise.
However, the rerun election into the Kano State House of Assembly started peacefully in Kura Local Government area, with voters actively casting their ballots.
Security personnel are present in all polling units where the rerun elections are taking place. Halima Abdullahi, an electoral officer at Kurunsumau ward of Auzinawa Polling Unit, confirmed that the BVAS machine was functioning well.
Elections are progressing smoothly in most polling units in Kura. In Garun Malam Local Government, election materials arrived on time, and voters turned out early to cast their ballots.
Reports from Rimin Gado and Tofa constituencies indicate that the elections are proceeding without any disruptions.
A heavy presence of security agencies is observed in all polling units, with a large turnout of people exercising their constitutional mandate.
