It’s Not My Responsibility To Pick A Captain – Super Eagles Coach, Finidi George
Super Eagles head coach, Finidi George has revealed that he will not hand pick the new captain for the national team.
The former Ajax star, who was unveiled by the Nigeria Football Federation early May, said the players and not him will decide who becomes their captain.
Veteran striker, Ahmed Musa and centre back, William Troost-Ekong who have both captained the team at different times are both close to retirement.
Amid these rumours, Defender, Kenneth Omeruo, who is now the most senior member of the team has been tipped to take over the armband.
However, Finidi George has said he will allow the players decide who will lead them.
His words:
“It’s not my responsibility (to pick a captain), it’s the responsibility of the team.
“People said (Sunday) Oliseh picked his captain and Finidi George should do same. It’s not my responsibility to pick a captain. The players will choose the person they are comfortable with. They will decide who wears the captain’s arm band.”
