EFCC Arrest Yahaya Bello’s Female Police ADC And Other Security Around Him
A female police officer who previously served as the aide-de-camp to former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has been apprehended and placed in custody by the Nigeria Police Force.
As per reports, the ADC was detained alongside other police officers assigned to the embattled former governor.
The apprehension of these officers is based on suspicion that they may have facilitated Bello’s evasion from security personnel who had surrounded his Abuja residence on Wednesday with the intention of effecting his arrest.
It is worth noting that the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, issued a directive on Thursday night for the immediate withdrawal of all officers assigned to Bello.
This directive, conveyed through a police wireless message, came after Bello went missing from his Abuja residence subsequent to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) besieging the premises.
In response, the EFCC declared Bello wanted and urged individuals with pertinent information regarding his whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.
However, the Commissioner for Information in Kogi State, Kingsley Fanwo, refuted claims that Governor Usman Ododo provided assistance to former Governor Yahaya Bello in evading arrest by the EFCC.
In an interview with Channels Television on Friday, Fanwo emphasized Ododo’s commitment to upholding the country’s laws and respecting its legal procedures.
He asserted, “Governor Ododo did not facilitate Bello’s departure from his residence; the EFCC’s assertions are misleading and serve their agenda. Bello is not eluding anyone; a standing court injunction safeguards his constitutional rights.”
Fanwo rejected the EFCC’s allegations, branding them as unfounded and part of an orchestrated campaign of disinformation.
He maintained that Bello was not attempting to evade arrest, highlighting that a state high court injunction shields the former governor from harassment by the anti-graft agency.
The commissioner dismissed the commission’s accusations and questioned the agency’s certainty regarding Bello’s whereabouts.
He reiterated that Governor Ododo remains a law-abiding leader who adheres to the rule of law and the nation’s Constitution.
