Since making his way into office, Donald Trump’s time as president has found people questioning how much taxes he’s paid while calling out others. Now, it seems Trump has only paid $750 in taxes in 2016 and during his first year as president according to the New York Times.
A report surfaced from the outlet showed that Trump did not pay federal taxes 10 out of the last 15 years. Trump has gone out of his way to hold on to his tax returns despite politicians and watch groups asking for the businessman-turned-president to show his returns. Trump reportedly relied on business tax credits in his first two years as president to reduce the amount of taxes he paid.
NY Times reported that $9.7 million in business investment credits were submitted after Trump asked for an extension to file his taxes. As a result, the extension reportedly allowed him to offset what he owed and only paid $750 in 2016 and 2017. News of Trump’s paid taxes come years after he promised to reveal his tax returns during the 2016 election, to no avail.
