BURSTED!!!! EFCC Arrests Two Chinese, One Other For Suspected Illegal Mining In Ilorin
Two Chinese nationals, Yang Chao (39) and Xiao Jiang (38), have been apprehended by the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for suspected illegal mining activities. Chidi Joseph Osuji (48), believed to be an accomplice, was also arrested.
Acting on intelligence, the suspects were tracked to their mining sites in Ogunmakin and Ogere, Ogun State, where they were arrested after days of surveillance.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Chao and Chidi work as a factory manager and machine operator, respectively, at Cruis Chemical Nigeria Limited in Ogunmakin. Jiang serves as an assistant manager at John Odiba Multibiz in Ogere.
The alleged cartel specializes in illegal mining of minerals such as marble stone, white powder, lithium, and lepidolite. They transport these minerals outside the country through illegitimate means for personal gain.
Further investigations linked the three suspects to the ownership of solid minerals carried by 41 individuals arrested with truckloads of minerals in Kwara, Oyo, and other locations on February 5, 2024.
These individuals were apprehended for engaging in mining activities without the required licenses.
