Burna Boy, Asake, Rema Miss Out On Brit Awards
Nigeria’s ongoing streak without a win at the prestigious Brit Awards in the UK persisted, with three Nigerian artists—Burna Boy, Asake, and Rema—failing to secure an award at this year’s ceremony, which took place at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday night.
In the Best International Act of the Year category, both Burna Boy and Asake were nominated but faced defeat as the accolade went to the American artist SZA.
Similarly, Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ also lost the gong for the Best International Song of the Year to Miley Cyrus ‘Flowers.’
Despite the loss, Rema closed the ceremony with an electrifying performance of his hit song, ‘Calm Down.’
He became just the second African artiste to perform at the BRITs after Burna Boy who performed at the ceremony in 2019.
Meanwhile, Raye has extended her record as the artist with the most wins in one year in BRITs history.
She garnered six awards last night, including Best New Artist, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Best R&B Act and Songwriter of the Year.
