On Friday, January 19, Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, appeared at the Federal High Court in Maitama, Abuja, where he was arraigned on 20 counts related to alleged corrupt practices and forgery.
Dressed in an ash-colored pair of trousers and a dark jacket, Emefiele arrived at the court accompanied by his legal team and a few aides.
Initially facing six counts of N1.2bn procurement allegations, the charges against him were subsequently amended by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Upon the reading of the amended 20 counts, Emefiele pleaded not guilty. The trial judge, Hamza Muazu, adjourned the case to commence trial on February 12 and 13, 2024.
