Bandits Demand Two Motorcycles To Release 13 Victims After Receiving N8.5m
Having collected N8.5 million as ransom, kidnappers released four out of 17 people abducted at Kawu in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
The bandits however demanded two brand new Bajaj motorcycles from the families to release the remaining 13 victims in captivity.
Recall that on December 26, 2023, bandits invaded Kawu community in Bwari and abducted 23 persons, out of which four escaped, leaving behind 17 others.
A member of one of the families, Bala Dantani, told Daily Trust on Friday that the ransom was paid in tranches, after members of the community, relations and some family members of victims struggled to contribute money.
Dantani said the sum of N5 million was raised and handed over to the bandits after they threatened to kill the captives for their families’ delay in bringing the ransom two weeks ago.
He said another N3.8 million was taken to the bandits on Tuesday, including foodstuffs and drugs as well as wines, after the leader promised to release the victims.
However, the situation took a sinister turn when, while waiting for instructions on where to collect the victims, the intermediary reported that the bandits were once again demanding two motorcycles as a prerequisite for releasing the remaining in bondage.
