ASUU Threatens FG With Fresh Nationwide Strike
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to embark on another nationwide strike to protest absence of governing councils in all federal universities across the country.
The union’s president, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke stated this at a press conference on Tuesday in Abuja, noting that it will also seek to address other issues the Federal Government is yet to address.
ASUU said the Federal Government dissolved governing councils of the universities a year ago, has asked Nigerians to hold the government responsible for any decision it takes to protest the action of government, blaming the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government’s nonchalant attitude to education.
The body of academics also faulted the 35 percent salary increment for professors and the 25 per cent salary increment for other academics in the university system.
According to ASUU, it saw the increment as a wage award that could be withdrawn by the government anytime it deems fit. Prof. Osodeke said ASUU has given the Tinubu-led government enough time to set things in motion.
