According to Forbes and Bloomberg, Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote has once again become the wealthiest person in Africa, overtaking South Africa’s Johann Rupert.

Dangote’s net worth rose by $10 billion to $10.1 billion as of January 8, 2024, according to the Forbes Daily billionaires ranking, which tracks daily changes in the wealth of the world’s richest individuals.

This increase allowed Dangote to surpass the wealth of South African luxury goods entrepreneur Johann Rupert’s family.

As of the latest update, Rupert’s net worth stands at $10 billion, a decline from $10.7 billion recorded on January 30, 2023. On the Forbes list, Rupert currently ranks 197th globally, while Dangote holds the 191st spot.

However, according to the Bloomberg Billionaire Index, Dangote retains the title of the wealthiest individual in Africa.

Dangote’s significant wealth largely comes from his 86 percent stake in publicly traded Dangote Cement, as noted by Bloomberg.

His conglomerate, Dangote Industries, holds both direct and indirect ownership in the corporation, contributing substantially to his overall wealth.
