The Walking Dead: World Beyond season 2 is on the way and should premiere sometime in 2021. Here’s everything we know about it so far.
The Walking Dead: World Beyond season 2 is on the way, and here’s everything we know about it so far. Commissioned as a two-season limited series, World Beyond‘s story was always going to have a proper ending, one that would require more than just 10 episodes – and there’s certainly a lot of setup for what comes next.
In the two-episode World Beyond season 1 finale, Huck (whose real name is Jennifer) successfully brought Hope Bennett to the Civic Republic, without her father. Dr. Joe Bennett, knowing about it. And unfortunately for everyone else associated with the Campus Colony, they don’t have a home to go back to. As shown early in season 1, the Civic Republic seemed to wipe out the settlement.
Even though the journey to the Civic Republic is over, the actual story fans wanted to see from the start – behind-the-scenes of the organization and the setup for the Rick Grimes movies – appears to be on the horizon with World Beyond season 2. After all, getting to the point where the show could drop real information for the Walking Dead movies has been one of its most exciting factors.
The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 2 Release Date
World Beyond season 1 was originally supposed to premiere in April 2020, but it was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the delay, however, the writers were able to finalize the story for season 2 and are now reportedly in production. Since there will likely be another 10 episodes, instead of 13 to 16 episodes as is the case with The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead, it’s likely World Beyond season 2 will wrap up filming and release around summer 2021. That way World Beyond season 2 can segue nicely into The Walking Dead season 11.
The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 2 Story Details
World Beyond season 1 sets up both a covert and over confrontation between the Campus Colony and the Civic Republic. Although Hope has agreed to go with the CRM, who want to utilize her intelligence, she told Iris that she has no intention of cooperating. She will presumably use that intelligence to help her and her father, who also has his own doubts, escape the Civic Republic. Meanwhile, Felix and Iris are now plainly aware of what the Civic Republic has done to the Campus Colony, so that may launch an all-out war against the colonies. It’s possible the Campus Colony will unite with the people in Portland to fight back, since one of their own scientists was killed.
The Walking Dead: World Beyond Future After Season 2
Considering World Beyond has always been a two-season show, that doesn’t mean the characters and their stories can’t continue. World Beyond is the closest fans will get to setup for the Walking Dead movies, which means the characters can show up in those as well, along with the Civic Republic and their stories. Furthermore, AMC is planning an anthology series, which means anyone, including those from World Beyond, can be included. While World Beyond as a series will end with season 2, that doesn’t mean the people part of it have to leave the Walking Dead franchise yet.
