Warhammers in history were generally used by knights as a secondary weapon when facing opponents that were heavily armored, when plate armor was developed around the 15th and 16th centuries. Historical warhammers looked nothing like their fantasy counterparts, like those in Baldur’s Gate 3. They are usually only about three pounds in weight and only three feet in length, with a hammerhead on one side, that was used to deliver punishing hits to helmets on one side and sharp beaks on the other.
